Ce sont de jolies couvertures de livres. I really like the drawing style, also. I assume some of these Greek cars were in the book on cars: Theologou, Biamax, Sfakianakis, Saracakis, Namco, Neorion, ELBO, Petropoulos, Malkotsis, Scavas, AK Hellas, Attica, DIM, AutoDiana, Balkania, MAVA-Renault, MEBEA, Motoemil, Ros, SAM, and Styl Kar? That’s the most complete list of Greek cars I could find.

Thank you, my dear Tim!!! Wow, that’s an amazing list you found!!!! Many I didn’t know! Title is a bit misleading. Petropoulos was a folklorist and urban historian so this series had to do with the history & transformations of those ‘objects’. In the old days people would decorate their cars with various objects, items of worship, charms, messages for a lover etc. These books are full of photos of these, catalogued and archived with comments and interpretations. Same for bird cages and kiosks. Kiosks are little ‘shops’/newsstands you can find in street corners, open long hours where you can find items like cigarettes, newspapers, snacks etc. A very Greek thing and in the old days the decorations varied. He follows their history, from beginning to today [today was 1976].

There where a lot of Kiosks in Madrid, Spain. They were the next best services to Bars for having things you might need, especially on holidays and during the summertime when most everything else was closed. I think Kiosks are more common in big cities. The kiosks out here are shopping malls which always seemed silly to me. A book of localized, customized cars would be really cool. It would have excellent snapshots of local culture. That’s a bit like books on Low-riders and classic cars out here. Same thing with bird cages. I seen photos of really neat bird cages.

It really seems strange going to a shopping mall for a newspaper, an ice-cream or any other little thing. Shame many of them have closed due to our last financial crisis. Now you get to see them mainly in central streets.

The malls were, and some still are, the pedestrian places out here. You park you car and walk around in a huge mall. I very rarely go to malls. I have not been to Coronado Mall, which used to be hugely popular, in over 30 years. As you know I walk out along the river and in the bosque — ¡mucho mejor! I hate the color of mall lighting — ¡lo es muy mal!
Everything is so spread out in the southwest that you would have to drive your car to a kiosk. Therefore, we have convenience stores like the old 7/11s and Circle-Ks, which have mostly been taken over by gas stations so you can get your cigarettes, soft-drinks and coffee while you fill your car with gas before to drive to the mall, where you walk around shopping and eating ice cream that you bought in a kiosk in the mall.
On a side note, before the lockdowns, old folks would go to the malls early in the morning and walk laps around the different levels. They felt safe, were out of the elements, and it was a social thing. I think using malls for old folks to get their exercise is a great use of those spaces.

Muy mal, indeed! As muy mal is that old people can’t get their daily exercise in them… We’re currently on an even stricter lockdown. I don’t know who will errupt first, Etna or us!!!!
