Restoration & Transformation of Mavromichali building for

This was a 16 page brochure designed for the opening of the new offices of the European Parliament in Greece. The Mavromichali building, rich in decoration motifs, was restored and converted to offices by Yanniotis & Associates architects. A challenging work that had to be cautious while creating modern offices, to be discreet and not obstruct the decoration of walls and ceilings. We have used many of those beautiful elements, decoration motifs in the brochure.

Beautiful brochure. I can imagine that would be a challenging restoration and remodel.

    1. Oh very much! Trying to hide pipes, wires etc or trying to add lifts in such a beautifully decorated building without spoiling it was a great challenge and they did an amazing job.
So glad you liked the brochure!

  3. Wonderful! So much rich heritage in Greece.
We had a bit in Toronto, but most buildings (except churches) were demolished to make way for highrises.
Now there is a society that attempts to protect heritage buildings!

    1. Unfortunately there were so many beautiful neoclassical buildings that were demolished during the 60s in order to build concrete buildings, here too. It’s sad. At least some (like this one) were saved! It was a pleasure designing this brochure and seeing all these details and how the archtects restored them.

      1. Yes, those who do restorations are artists.
It’s crazy that it costs more to restore buildings than to just tear them down and build a new one.

        1. Crazy indeed but it actually makes sense as you have to combine new building elements with old while at the same time trying not to harm original decorations.
